HES MUSIC

Miss Emily Trainor, HES Music Teacher
Hello and welcome to music!

My name is Miss Trainor, and I am the music specialist for grades Pre-K through 5, here at Hildreth Elementary. I am a University of Massachusetts Amherst graduate and come all the way from southern NH! I started at Hildreth in the spring of 2022, and this is my first full year in the district! I am so excited to be able to share my passion for music with your students and the community.

It is my goal to cover the concepts below using the Massachusetts Frameworks for the Arts standards. This means in almost every class we will be creating, performing, responding, and connecting. I find it crucial that students are given these opportunities so that they are not only learning in the classroom, but transferring this knowledge to their own life, in whatever format seems appropriate. The assumption is that the earlier these students become familiar with expectations and basic music knowledge, the sooner they will be able to create and perform on their own. This also will then help with any students that would like to continue with ensemble music at The Bromfield School.

Terms/Concepts students will know by the end of 5th grade:
  • Dynamics
  • Tempo
  • Notation
  • Notes on the staff
  • Garageband or other production apps
  • Musical Eras (classical, romantic, baroque, modern, etc)
  • Science of sound (ear, brain, vocal cords)
  • Instrument families
  • Genres of music
